How we use technology

Where automation and AI-assisted tools are involved, and where people are.

What technology does

ItemizeIt uses automated tools and AI-assisted services to read uploaded bills, organize charge information, identify patterns that may deserve a closer look, and prepare personalized documents and recommended next steps.

Concretely, that means technology helps us extract the details from your statement, compare charges against typical patterns, generate the specific questions worth asking, and draft the letters and talking points in your case.

What technology does not do

  • It does not decide that a charge is wrong
  • It does not send anything to a provider on its own
  • It does not approve documents on your behalf
  • It does not replace your judgment about your own care

Where people are involved

On the Advocate package, a person is assigned to your case and personally reviews provider responses, makes verification and status calls, and recommends your next step. Across all packages, when a provider response is unclear or unusual, it is routed to an internal review queue for a person to look at before anything further is sent.

We do not claim that a person has manually reviewed every charge on every bill unless that review actually occurred.

Accuracy and limitations

AI-assisted analysis can miss things and can misread things, particularly on low-quality scans or unusual statement formats. Findings identify potential areas worth reviewing. They should be confirmed with your provider or insurer, and no correction, reduction, refund, or response is guaranteed.

Your consent

Before any bill is processed, you are asked to authorize this processing explicitly, for that specific case. The consent language, the version shown, and the time you accepted it are recorded, and you can download a copy later.

Not sure what applies to your bill?

Upload it and see what may deserve a closer look. The review is free.
