Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

HMH Holdings LLC d/b/a Itemizeit (“Itemizeit”) is committed to making our website and services usable by everyone, including people with disabilities.

People often come to Itemizeit while dealing with an illness, an injury, a hospital stay, or the stress of a bill they cannot afford. Accessibility is not an add-on for us. If a person cannot use this service, we have not done our job.

Standard we are working toward

We are working to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium.

Current conformance status: partially conformant. Parts of Itemizeit meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard, and parts do not yet. We are actively working to close the gaps described below.

What we have done

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper headings, landmarks, and lists
  • Keyboard navigation for all interactive features, with a visible focus indicator
  • Labels tied to every form field, and errors announced in text rather than color alone
  • Color contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and interface controls
  • Alternative text on meaningful images, and no meaning conveyed by color alone
  • Text that can be resized to 200 percent without breaking the layout
  • Support for screen readers on the upload, review, and case management flows
  • Plain language throughout, because medical billing terminology is a barrier on its own

Known limitations

We want to be honest about where we fall short today:

  • Uploaded documents. Medical bills and Explanations of Benefits are created by providers and insurers, not by us. Many are scanned images with no text layer, which screen readers cannot read. Our analysis results are always presented as accessible text, so you can read our findings even when the original document is not accessible to you.
  • Complex tables. Itemized charge tables can be difficult to navigate with a screen reader. We are improving row and column header associations.
  • PDF output. Letters and action plans you download may not yet be fully tagged for accessibility. Contact us and we will provide the same content in an accessible format.
  • Third-party components. Some payment and authentication elements come from outside providers and are not fully under our control. We raise accessibility issues with those providers when we find them.

If something is not working for you

If you run into a barrier anywhere on Itemizeit, tell us and we will help you directly and fix the underlying problem.

Email: hello@useitemizeit.com
Subject line: Accessibility

Please include:

  • The web address (URL) where the problem happened
  • What you were trying to do
  • What went wrong
  • The assistive technology you use, if any. This helps but is not required

We respond within 3 business days, and we aim to resolve issues within 30 days where feasible. If a fix will take longer, we will tell you why and give you a way to complete what you were doing in the meantime.

Getting help another way

If any part of Itemizeit is not usable for you, we will complete the work with you directly rather than asking you to struggle through the site. Contact us at hello@useitemizeit.com and we can:

  • Take your bill information and set up your case for you
  • Read your analysis results to you or send them in a format that works for you
  • Walk you through authorizing a letter
  • Provide any document in large print, plain text, or another accessible format

There is no extra charge for this. It is the same service, delivered a different way.

Assessment and ongoing work

We evaluate accessibility through a combination of automated testing, manual keyboard-only testing, and screen reader testing. Accessibility is reviewed when we ship significant changes, and we treat reported barriers as bugs rather than feature requests.

Formal complaints

If you contact us about an accessibility barrier and are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate by emailing hello@useitemizeit.com with the subject line Accessibility Complaint. A complaint is reviewed by the owner of the business and answered in writing.
